VFW MILITARY FAMILY ASSISTANCE CENTERS
VFW Post 9191 is one of 60 VFW Military Family Assistance Centers nationwide and in Europe. These assistance centers was launched in June 2004 for military members and their families. The new VFW Family Assistance Centers will expand the network of support services and emergency aid for family members of deployed servicemen by working in concert with local Military Family Support Centers (FSC) such as the Army Community Service (ACS) at Fort Hood.

"The Military Assistance Program (MAP) initiative is an additional resource for families to turn to in time of need," said Bud Haney, (MAP) Director of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Headquarters. "The war and the extensive development of our servicemen and women have created a greater need for services to those left behind when a family member deploys. Sometime the need is as simple as listening, while sometimes the need is financial. We want family members, as well as their deployed spouse, to know the Veterans of Foreign Wars is available for help. Point of Contact: Post Commander; Arnold M. Hairston III.

We Invite you to our Post to use the services of our Service Officer for the Filing of claims for Service Connected Disability or upgrade of these Disabilities. Guidance is available on Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) for surviving spouses and dependents.

2005 National POW/MIA Recognition Day September 16, 2005

This commemoration is set aside to honor the commitment and the sacrifices made by this nation's Prisoners of War and those who are still Missing in Action, as well as their families. By custom, it is often observed in Pentagon ceremonies on the third Friday in September.

Decisions on exact dates of observance rest with local planners depending on the needs of the military or civilian community. National POW/MIA Recognition Day is one of the six days specified by law 36 USC 902 on which the black POW/MIA flag shall be flown over federal facilities and cemeteries, post offices and military installations. www.aiipowmia.com
